Let Them Be Kids

"LET THEM BE KIDS" is an all volunteer, non-profit organization created to build community capacity on the grassroots level; while building playgrounds, skate parks and fitness parks across Canada. These projects leave a legacy of community members who are inspired and better equipped to lay a strong foundation for a brighter tomorrow.

We have been awarded!

We are proud to announce that we have received a Let Them Be Kids Helping Hands award to assist with the building of a new playground and the remaking of our play yard! We are so excited about being one of just a few across the Country to be given such an award. So join the effort and stay tuned for more information in the weeks to come.

Cold Lake Elementary School Wins a National Award!

Cold Lake Elementary Community Playground Project
"Eduction with a heart!"

As we endeavoured to update our playground for our school and community, our School Council's Playground Committee applied for the Helping Hand Award from the Let Them Be Kids Foundation and won!  The Helping Hand award will give us a 50/50 match for every fundraising dollar that we raise towards the purchase of new, secure play and fitness structures.  A $1 donation will yield us $2 in equipment buying power.  Our intended playground construction date is slated for May 28th, 2011.

Our present playground is pictured above.
Just imagine the possibilities now with the Let Them Be Kids Helping Hand Award.

The students of Cold Lake Elementary School will design our new inclusive playground for everyone to enjoy, so that it will allow for significant play opportunities for all of the children in our community.  Agreen space will accompany the outdoor classroom, requiring students to plant and maintain gardens and to promote a positive attitude toward the environment within our youth.

We would like to thank all of the members of our Playground Executive, which included City of Cold Lake Mayor, Craig Copeland, for our meetings with Let Them Be Kids.

Our many thanks to Mrs. Dean, Mrs. McLaughlin, and to all our other devoted former parent volunteers: Mrs. Bartch (who helped significantly out up until December of this year), also to Mrs. Galambos, and Mrs. Gauthier, who helped out in previous years.   Thanks to all of our former School Councils, and Playground Committees for helping this playground to finally come to a fruition.  This project has been many years in the making, with significant amounts of revenue being raised this year thanks to our committed team under the direction of Mrs. Dean!

We need a devoted team of parent and community volunteers to help erect our new playground for our May 28th build date, so we need people with a whole host of abilities and skills to get the work of this important project done.  Please indicate your willingness to help us out by selecting the "Lend a Hand" button on the right hand side of the screen.  You will be asked to leave your contact information and any special skills that you would be willing to provide.  Once we have more specifics on our park (as we are going to involve students in the design process), we will be providing more needs.  However, if you own or know someone that owns a business that may be able to donate materials, supplies and/or labor for this project, please contact them and get them involved!

The park re-development will include:
o             New Playground Structure
o             Potentially Outdoor Fitness Equipment
o             Gathering Place
o             New landscaping and Natural Features
--We appreciate your continued support as this project moves forward!
